Internship in Surabaya City Government

Darussalam University (UNIDA) Gontor is a university located in Ponorogo, East Java and is still incorporated in an educational foundation with Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor. With the education system that adopts the Gontor pesantren, the Gontor pesantren system requires all students to be actively involved in various campus activities and living in the campus area. One of the demands to be active in various activities is lecturing activities. 

The program of international relations studies is one part of the academic life entity at UNIDA Gontor. The method used by the study program is not only dealing with classes and books but in field activities, which is also a consideration of the UNIDA HI study program. One of the programs that must be implemented by all UNIDA Gontor students related to field activities is the Internship program.

This program is a compulsory subject in semester 7 and has 4 (four) points in the UNIDA Gontor HI Semester Credit Unit (SKS). The requirement for students to take part in the internship program is due to several considerations. One of the big points is for students to know everything related to the world of work and be able to use theories that have been learned during class in all problems or cases that exist in the world of work.

To fulfill the program, the writer did an internship at the Surabaya City Government in the Cooperation Administration Section. The authors do the agenda for 2 months, starting on June 24, 2019, until August 28, 2019. For the authors, this internship program is a means to implement all the knowledge and experience that the author has done before. Like being a LO (Liaison Officer) for international guests, making a design related to Sister City of Surabaya and other cities to be posted on the Instagram account kerjasama.surabaya, making a description of the event for the international agenda of the Mayor's mother and Surabaya city officials, translation and event description, and various other agendas.

During this program, we were mentored and directed by the Surabaya City Government Cooperation Section staff. This is evident in our involvement in various important events, to providing corrections when we make mistakes. And we hope that after this apprenticeship program, it can improve the quality of the internship subjects (participants), and be able to become unforgettable learning that can be applied in our lives later.
